And he can’t stand Brother Man and Brother Man’s wife, that monster of fertility, Mae. I’m really not this crazy in real life, I promise. I’m not going to explain the back-story and who Maggie the Cat is because if you don’t know (and I mean really know as in I’ve-read-the-play know) then you should be ashamed of yourself and go and sit in the naughty corner where you belong. I’m starting with one of my favourite monologues from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. That’s why I’ve spontaneously decided to post a Tennessee Williams monologue! I’m so excited! Are you? You better be. I love Tennessee Williams so much that I would have his babies if he was alive and straight. There’s something you should know about me.

Lewis by Robert H. Stressing the efforts of industrial unionists such as Sidney Hillman and Philip Murray to forge potent instruments of political action, he assesses the CIO's vital role in shaping the postwar political and international order. Zieger details the ideological conflicts that racked the CIO even as its leaders strove to establish a labor presence at the heart of the U.S. Exploring themes of race and gender, Zieger combines the institutional history of the CIO with vivid depictions of working-class life in this critical period. Asked by Mancuso about his lack of employment, he replies, haughtily: “When my brain begins to reel from my literary labours, I make an occasional cheese dip.”Ī Confederacy of Dunces is available via Penguin Audio, 12hr 58min Further listening But none compare to the pompous, booming Ignatius, always expostulating about a world he believes has lost its values while overlooking his own idleness. The comic narrator Reginald D Hunter brings new life to a reprobate cast of characters: the cantankerous Claude Robichaux, who believes everyone to be a communist the doltish police officer, Mancuso, who is the butt of all jokes at his precinct and the put-upon Irene, who seeks solace in the wine she keeps hidden in the stove. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Kim ji young book reviewThe strange occurrences continued until the Chuseok harvest holiday. Again, Daehyun thought she was kidding around until she started to reveal information that only Daehyun was privy to. A few days later, she started impersonating their mutual friend. He noticed that Jiyoung was impersonating her mother, but he assumed she was joking. The narrator transitions into the past tense as, one day in September, Daehyun woke up and had breakfast. While Daehyun works long nights and weekends at his IT job, Jiyoung stays home all day and takes care of their daughter, who attends a daycare for a few hours in the morning. The narrator beings the first section, “Autumn, 2015,” in the present tense by informing us that Jiyoung is 33 and living in Seoul with her husband, Daehyun, and baby daughter, Jiwon. Although it is not revealed until the final section, the whole novel is narrated by Jiyoung’s therapist. I played Peter Pan, Miss Hannigan in Annie, Benny Southstreet in Guys and Dolls, the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, and lots of extremely memorable chorus parts-for instance, I was "girl number two" in Fiddler on the Roof-the one who said "We heard about your sister, Chava". Some details, I do know-I was very into reading and theater, so I read every book I could get my hands on (especially realistic fiction, either contemporary or historical) and took acting workshops and auditioned for every play in school, camp, or the community. (And down the street from my future husband, though of course I didn't know that until much later.) I was born on July 25, 1966, in NEW YORK CITY, and grew up in New Rochelle, NY, with my mother, my father, and my younger brother Jon. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Dear sugar authorI see a psychologist regularly and I’m not clinically depressed or on medication.ħ. I’ve never told you this because I’m not the type to write comments on web sites or send fan notes, but I’d like to say it now, in hopes that even if you opt not to publish this, you’ll read it and receive my gratitude for the comfort you’ve given me.Ħ. I have faith in my version of God and I pray every day and the way I feel when I’m in my deepest prayer is the way I feel when I read your words. No matter what you’re writing about, even if the particular situation has nothing to do with my life, your words feel sacred to me. My life has been a lot different from yours, but your big heart moves me. I can’t explain it, Sugar, but it’s true. Most days it feels like my grief is going to kill me, or maybe it already has. The dear boy I loved more than life itself was dead before the paramedics even got to him. The man was so inebriated he drove through a red light and hit my son at full speed. Nearly four years ago, a drunk driver killed my son. That’s all I ask for and it’s not a question.ģ. I don’t have a definite question for you. You may change it to a regular letter if you wish to should you choose to publish it.Ģ. This is a hard subject and a list helps me contain it. The only way I can get it out is to make a list instead of write a letter. It’s taken me many weeks to compose this letter and even still, I can’t do it right. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Usagi yojimbo by stan sakaiAnd of course, Mirage Studios 16 issues of Usagi, as well as a couple of Space Usagi series. So, we’ve always had a connection… almost from the very start. I was a bit ticked off because if I had known it was going to be published, I would have done a much better drawing. It was just a random drawing, a quick sketch that I did. The first crossover in comic books was a Donatello special that their studio, Mirage, published. It was our third or fourth meeting at Comic-Con - they already had the TV series - and I was talking with Peter Laird and he just turned to me and said, “Do you want to make an Usagi toy?” That was it, as far as merchandising goes. So, we never met until the San Diego Comic-Con. They were in the East coast and I am headquartered out in California. I wrote them letters, they wrote me letters, and we became friends. There weren’t that many so we supported each other. There was Elfquest, Grendel, Cerebus, of course, and just a couple of others. And at that time there were very few black and white comic books. Stan Sakai: Usagi and the Turtles started off about the same time, in 1984… I think the Turtles were published a few months before Usagi, but basically, 1984. 5/23/2023 0 Comments Babette's feast by isak dinesenDinesen's admirers and scholars often seek parallels between her life and her writing, and in "Babette's Feast" Dinesen seems to draw on her childhood and adult experiences to give the story depth and authenticity. As an adult, Dinesen found herself operating a coffee farm in East Africa, an experience that taught her a great deal about contrasting people and cultures. Through this experience, Dinesen came to understand and appreciate the ways women take care of loved ones and of each other. In the wake of this tragedy, her grandmother and a nearby aunt helped care for the family. In 1958, "Babette's Feast," along with other stories published in magazines, was compiled into Anecdotes of Destiny, which was available as of 2004.Īs a child, Dinesen suffered the loss of her father by suicide. A friend had advised her to write about food because Americans love food, so she crafted a story about the transformative powers of a very special feast. A number of her stories were featured in Ladies' Home Journal, including "Babette's Feast," which was first published in 1950. Having established her reputation as an author in the 1930s and 1940s, she sought to increase her income in the 1950s by having stories published in American magazines. Perhaps best known for Out of Africa (1937), Isak Dinesen is the pseudonym of Karen Blixen. |
